Adult Verification Services, commonly called AVS, originally were created to meet the demands of various jurisdictions requiring webmasters to make certain that only adults access their content. If one verified you were an adult, then that info could be shared with other sites and walla AVS was porn. In theory only adults have credit cards, simply a one dollar charge verified the cards validity and you could get access. Soon people realized there were millions to be made so, no longer is it a one dollar charge and their are dozens of AVS's for the webmaster and browser to choose from.
